Quilt Prep

Current Turnaround Time:

  • 4 weeks from the time your quilt is received

Preparing your top for quilting:

  • Iron the quilt top
  • Clip and remove loose threads
  • Do not add embellishments until after quilting is complete
  • Ensure all seams are secure
  • Quilt top should be squared up

Borders:

  • In order to help prevent waviness in your borders measure your quilt top 3 times before cutting your border pieces. Measure the quilt 4 inches from the top, through the middle and 4 inches from the bottom. Take the average of all 3 measurements and cut your border pieces to that length.
  • When attaching the borders to the quilt top find the center of your border and the center of the side of your quilt, then pin from the center out to the corners. Sew the border pieces to the quilt top placing the borders on top. The feed dogs can help gather in any extra fabric from the quilt top and help prevent waviness.
  • Repeat the process for the top and bottom borders.

Preparing your Backing and Batting:

  • Backing should be squared up
  • Backing and batting (if you are supplying your own batting) must be 4 inches wider on each side. For example if your quilt top is 60 in. x 60 in , the backing and batting must be 68 in. x 68 in. This allows the quilt to be loaded on to the machine.
